Imphal, February 22 2022:
The shutdown called by CorCom, a conglomerate of armed outfits, and other proscribed groups to boycott the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi affected normal life on Tuesday.
Main markets in Imphal including Khwairamband, Paona and Thangal Keithel remained closed along with markets in other districts.
While movement of passenger carriers was negligible during the shutdown period, people in large number came out to the streets to welcome PM Modi.
Many private vehicles were also spotted carrying participants of PM's programme.
To ensure security, police personnel and paramilitary forces maintained vigil at different areas.
There were no reports of any untoward incident during the shutdown.
