Key issues, education, better road common agenda for Kumbi candidates

Resolving key issues besetting the state as well as improving education and health sector and road infrastructure are the common agenda put forth by candidates in fray for Kumbi assembly constituency seat in the ensuing election to the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The People's Chronicle brings excerpts or brief interviews with the five candidates who are contesting for the Kumbi seat.
Independent candidate Naorem Sorojini said that there are still many areas which were left untouched by the past MLAs and she is contesting the election to fill up the gaps in order to bring true development in Kumbi AC.
Improvement in education, healthcare, agriculture and tourism sectors as well as road connectivity would be her focus in her constituency if elected, she said and also expressed strong desire to play a major role in resolving key issues of the state.
JD-U candidate Ahanthem Sanjay confided that he is contesting the election to address the issues plaguing Kumbi AC like education, healthcare, safe drinking water, irrigation and road connectivity, and these areas along with improving economy and rural infrastructure will be his focus.
He also assured to work for resolving major state issues such as border dispute, hill-valley disparity and to bring out a well-planned education policy and set up district boundary commission.
NPP candidate Ningthoujam Mangi said that he is contesting the election to continue serving the people and contribute his mite in resolving issues related with territorial integrity, repeal of AFSPA, restore secularism in the state.
For his constituency, he wants to take up activities to improve socio-economic condition of the people, set up multipurpose stadium for players, improve education, road connectivity and irrigation system and to boost fish production.
He also wants to contribute in ensuring railway line reaching Moreh, actual implementation of Act East Policy, maintaining territorial integrity and removing AFSPA from the state as an elected representative.
BJP candidate Sanasam Premchandra said that his main agenda for contesting the election is to take Kumbi and its people along with the global trend and to bring development.
Improving socio-economic condition of the people of his constituency, especially for women, will be his priority if elected, he said.
Premchandra also said that he wants to focus on education, safe drinking water and healthcare sectors in the state level.
INC candidate Dr Khangembam Romesh said that agriculture is the main source of income for the people in Kumbi AC and he wants to ensure effective irrigation networks.
Main area of focus for his constituency would be improving irrigation system, socio-economic condition of women, and education sector.
For the state, he will prioritise socio-economic based reservation system and effective delivery of benefits of welfare schemes taken up by the government to the targeted population.
