Training on scientific rearing of pony held

A one-day off-campus training programme on 'Scientific Rearing of Pony' was conducted at Brilliant Club Community Hall, Shamusang in Imphal West district on Tuesday.
The programme was organised by Department of Animal Sciences, College of Agriculture, Imphal and Directorate of Research, Central Agricultural University in collaboration with Kang-chup Road Young Physical and Sports Association (KRYPSA), Lamphelpat.
College of Agriculture former HOD (animal sciences) professor M Dhaneswar, founder member of KRYPSA Salam Biren and College of Agriculture, HOD (Animal Sciences) Dr Th Ranadhir attended the inaugural function of the programme as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Th Ranadhir informed that the programme was organised under the NRCE sponsored project entitled 'Conservation of Manipuri Pony'.
He stressed the need to involve new generation of pony owners and polo players by creating awareness on scientific aspects of Pony rearing so as to enable smooth management of this endangered breed.
Professor M Dhaneswar emphasised on the need for proper utilisation of Manipuri Ponies in different aspects, apart from Polo game and also taking up appropriate actions to save this precious animal by all concerned while Salam Biren explained about the various roles and local terminologies associated with Manipuri Pony since ancient times.
In the technical session, Dr Th Ranadbir spoke on 'A Glimpse on Manipuri Pony Conservation and Development Policy' and 'Selection and Breeding of Pony for Sustainable Production'; Dr K Rashbihari on 'Prevention and Control of Pony Diseases'; and Dr M Norjit on 'Shelter and Feeding Requirements of Ponies in their Natural Habitat' as resource persons.
About 34 owners, players, including well known athletes of the state participated in the training programme.
