Lamdeng protests woman's death

Imphal, September 12 2021:
Condemning the death of Asem Ghambini (65) wife of Ibopishak of Lamdeng Awang Leikai, who died following an incident of firing tear gas shells by the police to disperse people who tried to stop a meeting convened by minister Rajen; meira paibi representatives of three localities of Lamdeng staged a sit-in protest in front of The Pioneer Club located at Lamdeng Makha Leikai on Sunday.
Speaking on the sideline of the protest, one P Purnima informed that people of the area have been restricting holding of public meeting in Lamdeng area in view of the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic situation.
As many people have been infected and succumbed to Covid-19, the locals tried to urge minister Rajen not to convene the meeting.
However, he gave instruction to the police to disperse the, people using tear gas shells, she alleged.
Amid the police unleashing tear gas shells and smoke bombs, Asem Gambhini lost consciousness and passed away, the protester said and maintained the sit-in was staged to denounce the police action.
On the other-hand, she refuted reports of burning of BJP flag by people of Lamdeng and asserted that flag of every party is highly respected and there is no incident of burning BJP flag.
She also urged not to arrest the innocent people.
The protesters held/displayed placards inscribed with wordings like 'We condemn the death of Asem Gambhini', 'Condemn the claim of burning BJP flag', 'Do not incite violence', 'Don't lob bombs on people', 'There is no incident of burning of flag', etc.
