Imphal, September 12 2021:
People's representatives claiming to be leaders of hills siphoned off development and other funds to amass personal wealth and continue to polarise the society, stated education minister S Rajen.
Terming such selfish act of some politicians of the hills as unfortunate at a the reception ceremony of 221 former Congress workers of Lamsang AC, S Rajen said the present government led by N Biren has been able to provide benefits of government schemes directly to the people in the hills through 'Go to Hills' thereby changing the misconstrued mindset of the hill people apart from providing them the taste of good governance.
Though hill people's representatives in the past tried to create misunderstanding between hills and valley people, the present government has been able to bring harmony through various programmes under 'Go to Hills' like holding cabinet meeting and regular inspection of development projects.
Since the inception of the new government led by CM Biren, conditions of national highways have improved and constructed women's markets and Sadbhavna Mandap in all the district headquarters of hill districts.
Under Jal Jeevan Mission, hectic preparation is on to provide drinking water to every household in hills and villages while overhead water reservoir tanks are being constructed at various areas in Lamsang to provide drinking water to people of the AC, Rajen said, while talking about various development programmes initiated by the Biren government.
BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda Devi, who also attended the reception ceremony, said that the BJP led government is taking up various development programmes as the party which ruled for 60 years in the country did nothing.
Understanding senti ment of the people of Manipur, the Central government has extended ILP in Manipur and how far the present government thinks for the people can be known from the distribution of rice to the people free cost during COVID-19 pandemic, Sharda said.
The reception ceremony was also attended by BJP Lamsang Mandal president Y Muhindro and other leaders of the party.
