Imphal, September 12 2021:
Pointing out that farmers need to avail fertilisers timely to spray in their fields, MPCC co-opted member Achoibam Deben has observed that failure of the state government to provide fertilisers timely has caused huge problem to the farmers.
Deben made the remarks during distribution of monthly pension amount to elderly people, who do not receive benefit of government's pension schemes, and to widows of Challou, Lamlai, Napet Paili'and Pungdongbam Uyungmakhong under Lamlai A/C on Saturday.
Deben further pointed out that there is no meaning of providing fertilisers to farmers if it is beyond the time period for applying it.
As many of the farmers do not own paddy land of their own, they could not produce patta (land document), which the government had made mandatory to avail the fertilisers, he pointed while urging the government to provide fertilisers to farmers with or without producing patta.
He also denounced the government for remaining silent over the death of Huidrom Bibekanand of Huidrom on August 11 who met an accident while trying to procure fertilisers allocated by government at subsidised rate.
