The Kuki Students' Organization (Ghqs) and Thadou Students' Association- (Chandel) have strongly condemned the killing of George Jamkholal Zou, external secretary of UKLF while terming the act as 'treachery' .
The KSO-Ghqs in a statement said that KSO advocates peaceful and cordial relationship between the Kuki armed organizations since it is the common pebple who always bore the brunt of infighting among the armed groups.
It said that internecine killing, such as this, always has been the cause of hate and disunity among the Kuki armed organizations.
"The Kuki people and the CSOs will never condone this kind of gruesome act which has the potential to derail the peace agreement of the armed organizations", it asserted.
He further said that the Kuki people and the CSOs have high hope of peace and harmony when the armed organizations reached an agreement recently to create a conducive environment for unity and integrity of the different armed organizations.
Therefore this killing incident has come as a shocker to all, it added.
Calling for reconciliation, the student body appealed to the UKLF not to reciprocate the thoughtless act of the KNLF to prevent any further escalation of the rivalry.
While appealing to stop such internecine killing and fighting, the student body said that the rival groups should make an effort to come together and settle the killing as per Kuki customary law in the interest of peace, unity and integrity.
Thadou Students Association - Chandel (TSA-CDL) said "What is the use of holding traditional peace and reconciliation ceremonies in the name of God and yet continuing to act against the principle of peace? And what is the use of peace deal just to break it? People of Chandel district have had enough of terror perpetrated on them - ethnic tension, landmines planted in civilian areas, fratricidal killing such as this one and the list goes on.
Acts of senseless killing, torture and intimidation will not in any way further the self-pro-claimed cause of people's freedom and protecting their rights to self-determination, but are only self-defeating" .
The Government should act sternly against perpetrators of the crime and bring them to justice as quickly as practicable, it demanded.
It also urged all armed organisations under or outside SoO agreement to respect human life and stop killing.
TSA prayed that Jamkholal's soul rests in peace while also sharing the grief and pain of the bereaved family.
It further thanked several Moreh-based civil organisations and individuals for their laudable efforts in the search for the body.
