Imphal, June 27 2015 :
Expressing serious concern over harassments and attacks meted out to Mao people by volunteers of Southern Angami People's Organisation (SAPO) and Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO), the All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) has demanded the State Govern-ment to send a Ministerial or official team to New Delhi to apprise the Centre about the standoff.
In a statement, the civil society body said that no ancestral land of Manipur would be given to Nagaland and AMUCO would back Mao people on the issue till the end.
The issue is getting aggravated as the State Govern- ment did not take up necessary steps to check encroach- ment at Dzuko and Kozuri although Mao people alerted the Government on time.
It is questionable whether the present State Government is ignorant about its boundary, the statement added.
As such, at this juncture, the State Government must spell out its stand on the issue before the situation goes out of hand, AMUCO urged.
On the other hand, the statement added, Nagaland Government has also been maintaining silence although SAYO and SAPO volunteers keep on harassing and attacking Mao people in their State.
SAYO and SAPO volunteers had not only issued quit notice to Mao people but also blocked their movement on NH-2, thrashed them and vandalised their vehicles, the statement said.
Moreover, two shops belonging to Mao people were vandalised in Kohima and Mao Council Kohima unit president was thrashed in broad daylight, it added.
The statement further said that all these atrocities were meted out to Mao people for asking SAPO and SAYO to stop encroachment into their ancestral land within the boundary of Manipur.
