Kumbi Municipal Council has sought legal action against Congress MLA of Kumbi constituency Sanasam Bir Singh for allegedly interfering with the affair of the council arbitrarily and plotting to move a no-confidence motion against the chairperson.
Over the issue, the council and State unit of Communist Party of India (CPI) organized a press conference at Manipur Club on Saturday.
Council chairperson, Kumbi councilor and Manipur State Council CPI deputy secretary N Mangi were present at the press conference.
Chairperson M Bineshwor said including himself the Kumbi Municipal Council is run by four CPI and one Independent Councillors, but the Congress is scheming to topple it after some amount of money for development purposes has been sanctioned for the council.
N Mangi said the no confidence motion against the chairperson is totally irrational.
He said around Rs 20 crore meant for the council sponsored by the Ministry of Urban Development has been approved for taking up development projects which are to be implemented by the PDA.
Mangi alleged that it has been revealed that MLA S Bir Singh requested the PDA Executive Engineer L Kesho for a contract work worth Rs 6 crore.
The MLA also tried to buy Councillors with an aim to topple the present Kumbi Municipal Council, Mangi claimed.
A no-confidence motion signed by four Congress and one Independent Councillors was planned by the MLA against the chairperson, the CPI leader accused.
He said the interference of the Congress MLA Bir Singh is illegal and sought legal action against him because a legislator is not permitted to interfere with the affair of any
municipal council.
A petition against the MLA has been filed with the High Court of Manipur, he informed.
