Imphal, February 22 2014 :
A passport mela would be held at 1st MR banquet hall on February 24 under the aegis of the Ministry of Home Affairs and it would provide an opportunity to apply for passports at a lesser cost.
According to an official of the State Home Department, the passport mela would be orchestrated by seven officials including the Chief Passport Officer and the Regional Passport officer.
The fee for obtaining passport at the mela would be significantly much lesser than the average expenditure incurred in obtaining passport from Guwahati.
Notably, the Chief Minister has already asked the Union Home Minister to open a passport office at Imphal ahead of the Lok Sabha election.
Moreover, two police officers have been designated as assistant passport officers.
