Imphal, February 22 2014 :
In what may be called a rather extraordinary or the first of its kind happening in Manipur, a mother gave birth to a 6 kg weighing baby at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat here.
The baby was delivered by one Ongbi Senu (36), wife of Maipakchao hailing from Kakching Khunou bazaar at around 7:30 pm on February 21, through a caesarean section (CS) operation conducted under the supervision of JNIMS doctors Dr.Paikhomba and Dr.Surjit Nongmaithem.
According to the couple, they already have 3 children who were all delivered in normal ways.
Their fourth baby which was delivered weighing 6 kg at birth was never expected.
Senu was first admitted to Thoubal District hospital before being brought to JNIMS at around 5:52 pm in the evening of February 21 after having referred by the doctors to operate.
The 6 kg weighing baby was then delivered without any complications after being operated at JNIMS.
According to gynecologist Dr Binodkumari, mothers who have very high sugar levels in their blood are prone to giving birth heavy and large babies.
But in this case, it was quite shocking to learn of the mother giving birth to such a large and heavy baby despite normal sugar levels in her blood.
Normally in Manipur, babies at birth measure about 3 to 3.5 kg weight, or in the rarest cases measures up to 4 kg weight.
The birth of a baby weighing 6 kg in the state will be scripted in history as the first and foremost kind in the state, sources added.
