Under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt of India, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Thoubal launched the National Youth Policy 2014 and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan at the Counting Hall of DC Office Thoubal from today.
NYKS Vice Chairperson L Tilotama and Thoubal DC T Ranjit were the chief guest and president of the launching function respectively.
Earlier, a mass youth rally was flagged off by Thoubal ZEO DI H Priyokumar from the New Public Higher Secondary School, Khangabok ground.
More than 1000 youth leaders, school and college students, teachers and officials joined the rally.
L Tilotama expressed that while Manipuri is identified by its culture Manipur is also known as the power house of sports.
She reiterated that there should be no politics and discrimination in selecting talented sports persons for participating in the State, National and International level competitions.
In his key note address, NYK Thoubal DYC Y Laksman said that the National Youth Policy 2014 is a holistic vision for the youth of India, which intends to empower the youth of the country to tap their full potential.
The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan is an attempt to promote sports by developing 6,500 sport complexes in every rural Blocks of the country.
Funds would be provided for conducting competitions at block level (Rs 1,00,000), district level (Rs 4,00,000), State level (Rs 2,00,000 for each district in the State) and national level (Rs 10 lakh per sports discipline), he said.
Above all, there would be Youth Resource Centre, Sports Trainers and training of women for self-defence etc.
T Ranjit assured that the District Administration would extend all possible help and cooperation to Nehru Yuva Kendra.
The DC thanked NYK for mobilizing and motivating the youths in the district in time in the implementation of the National Youth Policy and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan in the district.
The launching function was followed by folk dance and folk song competitions.
First position in the folk song competition went to Meihourol lnat Sintam Sanglen (MISS), Thoubal Haokha and first position in folk dance went to Heloi Taret, Kairembikhok, Wangjing.
They will participate in the State Level Cultural festival which will be held at Imphal from February 25 to 27 .
