Irabot Foundation urges to protect arable land

Irabot Foundation Manipur has urged the State authorities to protect the fast diminishing arable land of the land.
Talking to media persons at the office of Irabot Foundation located at Singjamei here today, its President Th Iboyaima said that thousands of hectares of arable land in the State have been used for construction of office buildings, schools, brick fields and residential complexes thereby affecting the agricultural output of the State.
The loss of large tract of arable land is a threat to the survival of the people as the current agricultural output of the State falls short to meet the increasing demands of the people.
The State Government should adopt proper land use policy to protect the arable land and encourage the farmers to boost agricultural productivity of the State, he enjoined.
Organization Secretary of Irabot Foundation Gopen said that the foundation has submitted a five-point memorandum to the State Government for formulation of proper land use policy of the State; exemption of arable land from the purview of Land Acquisition Act; protection of arable land; protection of reserved and protected forest areas of the State under Manipur State Durbar Act, 1935; and reclamation of lost arable land.
