6kg baby born at JNIMS

In one of a rare incidents that is believed to break a national record, a wo-man gave birth to a baby girl weighing six kilograms yes-terday at JNIMS Hospital.
A team of gynaecologists and obstetricians of JNIMS led by Dr Kh Paikhomba helped Mayanglambam (O) Senu Devi (37) of Kakching Khunou deliver the six-kg weighing baby through caesarian section yesterday around 7.25 pm at the hospital.
Both the mother and child are stable and no signs of birth and health complication are detected, Dr Paikhomba, who is also an Assistant Professor in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology dept of JNIMS informed media persons today.
The weight of just-born infant through normal delivery is said to be not more than 3 kgs.
Babies weighing more than 3 kgs are known in medical parlance as 'big baby size,' according to Dr Pai-khomba.
The 4th child of a private school teacher, Mayang-lambam Maipakchao Singh (45) and house-wife Senu of Kakching Khunou, Thoubal district, is believed to be the heaviest just-born infant of the country.
A baby weighing 5.7kgs born in 2010 at Gujarat's capital Surat is said to be the heaviest infant in the country so far, said the doctor.
Meanwhile, the couple also thanked the doctors and staff of the hospital for the safe delivery of the baby.
The mother and child would soon be discharged from the hospital.
