Wildlife protection campaign launched

Aimed at preservation of wildlife, a two-day awareness campaign has been flagged-off by the Principal chief Conservator of Forests AK Rana and K Avi Angami, IFS, Chief Wildlife Warden from the Sanjenthong office complex of forest Department today.
Th Mohendro Pratap, IFS, Conservator of Forests, Wildlife and L Joykumar Singh, IFS, Dy Conservator of Forests/ Park & Sanctuary were also present.
The campaign themed 'Wildlife Our Life' would cover 74 villages of the four valley districts and is an initiative of the people for Animals, Thoubal in association with various other wildlife protection groups.
Sponsored by the Wildlife Wing of Forest Department, the two-day 250-kilometre sojourn on motor vehicles would have wildlife activists spreading message on the importance of protecting wildlife to maintain ecological balance and staging streetcorner plays.

Noting that unrestrained deforestation in the state is having adverse impact on the natural habitats of wildlife, AK Rana emphasised on active participation of NGOs in protecting wildlife.
The campaign covered many important villages like Khoidum and Loktak Lake in Imphal West and Bishnupur.
The campaign team effectively sensitised the people using outdoor media like play and public announcements.
The team also collected 2 bird nets from Uchiwa Awang Leirak, 2 from Uchiwa Hangul Mayai Leikai, 6 from Ningol Khong Khoidum lake from the farm house of one Leipokpam Somorjit Singh and 1 from Kwakhong Mapal Arong Khunou area.
The campaign will cover Imphal East and Thoubal tomorrow, according to L Biswajeet Meitei, Managing Trustee of People for Animal Thoubal.
