Vehicular movement on RIMS Rd restricted

Residents have imposed restriction on the movement of heavy vehicles on Central School Road, stretching from RIMS traffic island to Langol Tarung, from today till the road is black-topped.
The Central School road is conveniently used by public of Neikanlong, Grace Colony, RNBA, Tarung Khun, Holy Trinity Parish, GFA Bible College, Laimanai Ramgailong, CSD Rehabilitation Centre, Lanthungching, Shija Hospitals, St Savio School, Langol Housing Complex, Meetei Leikai.
Residents alleged that the road has been neglected by the Government authority for long.
On top of this, the rampant quarrying of forest reserved land has made the condition of the road worse as many vehicles ply to and fro the excavation site on daily basis, the residents vented.
As such residents of the area decided to enforce restriction on the movement of loaded heavy vehicles till the road is black-topped, the residents said.
Village secretaries of Neikanlong, Tarung, Grace Colony, Puigailong, and Ramgailong have today submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Forest and Environment Minister, Works Minister, Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board, president of UCM urging them to do the needful in speeding up road improvement work of the Central School road which is highly relied by public of many villages and important institutions of the area.
The memo highlighted banning of entry of heavy vehicles on the road while also demanding setting up of a traffic island at Langol Housing Complex crossing point.
It also urged the authority to constitute an enquiry committee to review the disadvantages and security problem of people residing in Langol Hills and Lamphelpat areas.
