Lamka/Imphal, January 16 2013:
The CDSU today said that as a constituent member of ATSUM it would extend full support to the one day general strike called by ATSUM from midnight of January 18 .
The legitimate demands raised by ATSUM for the tribals of Manipur have been time and again placed before the Government, however the Government deliberately neither met nor acted upon the demands, alleged the CDSU in a statement.
The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong has also endorsed the bandh called by the ATSUM.
In a statement, TKS said that it fully supports the charter of demands put up by ATSUM and expressed regret that some student organisations have opposed the stand of ATSUM.
Touching other points, TKS said that the next TET examination is scheduled for April this year with provisions like B Ed as mandatory criteria to appear in TET.
Stating that the State Government has made the changes within a short notice, TKS said that this is seen as a ploy against the interest of the hill people.
Several tribal students could not avail the opportunity to study BEd course as all the educational institutions are situated in the valley, alleged TKS and added that the DIET centre in all hill district headquarters remain non-functional till date.
The student body also demanded that the SC/ST quota should be protected in the upcoming High Court at Imphal.
