Imphal, January 16 2013:
The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has condemned the bomb attack at the residence of HTC president Jangmang Haokip while terming it as an act of barbarism.
In a statement signed by its information and publicity secretary, Micah Kamei, ATSUM also registered strong condemnation over a hit and run case that took place at North AOC on December 18 last and claimed the life of M Awungshi Nganaongai, headmaster of Frontier High School, Ukhrul.
Pointing out that the Govt owned vehicle involved in the case (white colour Scorpio) was allowed safe passage inside Kangla when bystanders chased after hitting the man, ATSUM said the law of the land is not immune to those at the helm of affairs and big shots.
As such, ATSUM supported the demand of TKLI for redressal in the form of ex-gratia to the bereaved family, die-in-harness to the next of kins and booking of the security guard, the driver and owner of the vehicle who are still absconding.
The ATSUM statement also termed the torching of Ukhrul DC's vehicle aftermath the incident at Kongkan by a furious mob at Ukhrul town on Dec 30 as unfortunate while appealing all concerned not to resort to such kind of acts in future.
It further demanded that ex-gratia to the two deceased villagers in the Kongkan incident be paid to the victims' families according to the gravity of the case and nature of the crime.
