Imphal, July 09 2009:
After successfully undergoing operation for Naso-Orbital Encephalocele (an abnormal swelling in the nostril), Baby SP Wungthingla has returned to Imphal with a new lease of life from Punjab today.
Hailing from Wanglee village, located along Indo-Myanmar border in Ukhrul district, 9-year old Wungthingla underwent the operation for repair of Encephalocele and skull base with mid-face reconstruction at a medical hospital in Ludhiana, Punjab with financial support from various philanthropists.

The abnormal swelling had compelled the little girl to give up her studies or play around with her friends in the village until The Sangai Express came across her during a tour of the border area and flashed the news of her plight and the financial condition of her family.
After the news report was published, many philanthropists including Governor Gurbachan Jagat, MLA Bijoy Koijam, Principal Secretary PC Lawmkunga, as well as French National and social worker Michel, whose 7-year old daughter Rebecca even volunteered to contribute her savings in the piggybank, came forward to donate money for the operation of Wungthingla.
Wungthingla left Manipur along with her father SP Ayo on April 1 this year to undergo the operation at Christian Medical Centre (CMC), Ludhiana.
According to Dr Mathew Jacob, who treated Wungthingla, her case in medical term is known as Naso-Orbital Encephalocele and the operation done is 'repair of Encephalocele and skull base with mid-face reconstruction'.
When she landed at Tulihal Airport here today, the first words that Wungthingla said were ''Now I want to go to school again and study'' and after a hindsight added "I also want to see my mother as I miss her very much".
Wungthingla would need to go for routine check up after six months.
Ayo, a poor farmer, has expressed his gratitude to all the people who extended their help.
