Imphal, July 09 2009:
Commenting on separatists movement in the state is not a light matter as whether the then Governor General of India Lord Luis Mountbatten has given his consent on the merger agreement signed by Maharaja Bodhachandra of Manipur on August 11, 1947.The state council of the party while putting the down question has sought a certify copy of the Instrument of Accession if the then Governor General has given his consent from the Union ministry of home affairs, its general secretary, Y Biren said today.
Speaking at a press conference held today at Kalyan Bhavan, the general secretary observed that if the then Governor General of India happened to be given his assent in the Instrument of Accession singed by the Bodhachandra, the illegality of the merger of Manipur to the Indian will be come up but if not given the assent there is not reason for resistant in the separatist movement in the state.
Lack of sincerity of the Indian authorities in annexing Manipur is behind the unrest situation prevailing in the state, Biren blamed adding the then British empire taken over Manipur, existed independently since 33rd century, in 1891, then, merged to Indian Union on October 1948 .
Before the merger to Indian union, Manipur have its own legislative assembly and merging of a state by abolishing the legislative assembly was not a right step in the true sense.
As result of force annexation, the Armed Forces (Special) Power Act, 1958 was enforced in the state of Assam
and Manipur.
