Imphal, July 09 2009:
Unidentified armed persons caused substantial damage to the building of a police outpost, which is under construction, at Sanjenbam Khullen in Imphal East district last night.
According to eyewitness accounts, three persons with small arms forced excavator drivers/operators to dismantle the buildings at around 9.30 pm.
The outpost construction site is located about 8 kilometres south-east of Lamlai police station and the incident is the second of its kind in the district after a similar complex was destroyed last month.

Labourers stationed at the Sanjenbam Khullen construction site recounted that the unidentified persons showed up on an excavator and asked another operator at gunpoint to drive the heavy machine through the buildings.
They also disclosed of the armed trio directing the workers to leave the site by daybreak insisting that future occupants (police personnel) of the buildings are their (perpetrators) enemies and when occupied their movement would be disturbed.
However, the labourers were compelled to stay put for another day owing to the bandh today as well as due to compulsion for safeguarding the construction material.
There are three groups of labourers engaged for the police outpost construction with two groups having left the site and the third group deployed since March this year, said a labourer.
The damaged structures include an RCC building with tin roofing and frontal portion of two roof-less barracks.
Shaken by the experience, a worker informed that the armed men ordered the excavator operators to dismantle the boundary wall also before leaving the site at around 10 pm.
However, the two excavator operators drove away the machines from the location in the night itself, the worker added.
It is pertinent to add that on June 12 night, unidentified armed persons used bull-dozers to dismantle the buildings under construction on the eastern side of Ngariyan hillock, which was supposed to be Andro police station.
