The Court of Special Judge ( SC & ST Prevention of Atrocities) Senapati N Keertichand has convicted Kishorechandra Wangkhem of Keishamthong Moirangningthou Leikai for posting derogatory remarks against Maram tribe in his Facebook account on September 3, 2020, today.
Reportedly, the Court has sentenced the convict to undergo simple imprisonment of 6 months and also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 3(1) ( r) of Scheduled Caste and Schedule Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989 .
The case was on against the convict after the president of Maram Women Union lodged a complaint to Senapati police.
Kishorechandra was arrested on September 29, 2020 in connection with the case and later granted bail.
The the IO of the case after the completion of the investigation submitted the charge sheet against the convict and framed charges under Section 153-A, 505(c) IPC and Section 3 (1)(r) of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe ( Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989 on March 16, 2021 .
