Security beefed up ahead of VP's visit today

Vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar will be arriving here on Wednesday as part of his Manipur and Assam tour.
VP Jagdeep will visit Dhanamanjuri University and will attend an interaction programme with the students and faculty of the university, and later visit Manipur University, where he will participate in an Interaction Programme with faculties/scientists from various central institutions across the country.
Governor Anusuiya Uikey, chief minister N Biren and MoS for External Affairs Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh will attend both the events.
Education minister Th Basanta Singh will also be present at the programme in Dhanamanjuri University.
In Assam, the vice president will attend the 21st Convocation Ceremony of Dibrugarh University as the chief guest and deliver the convocation address.
Meanwhile, as a part of precautionary measures ahead of Jagdeep Dhankhar's visit, Imphal West district police commandos conducted search operation and frisking and checking at different locations on Tuesday.
According to police report, the commando team conducted search operation at Masjid Road, Wahengbam Leikai parking, Jiri Parking and in Uripok area from 8.20 am to 8.55 am on Tuesday.
People who were present in these areas were made to stand in line and verified one by one.
Twenty of them without identity cards were handed over to City police station for further verification.
The commandos also conducted search operation in Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai, Kabrabam Leikai and Hijam Leikai areas from 5 am to 7 am and searched 90 houses and rented rooms.
In all, 200 people and seven UG cadres out on bail were verified during the search.
Similarly, the district commando also conducted operation at Paona Bazar, Governor Road from 8 am to 8.55am and searched houses.
On Monday, the commando conducted house-to-house search at Kha Naorem Leikai during which 90 houses including rented quarters were searched and the residents verified.
However, there is no report of any arrest made during the searches.
