Imphal, May 02 2023:
Keisam Ratan of Utlou Mamang Leikai had given up all hope of survival when both his kidneys failed.
However, he was given a second chance in life to live on after he was able to get a kidney transplant at JNIMS without spending a single rupee under the Chief Ministergi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) scheme.
Talking to this daily, Ratan's wife Naobi appreciated Chief Minister N Bi-ren for launching the CMHT scheme.
She recounted that since 2018, her husband's kidneys started to fail and they even went to Delhi and other places for treatment.
However, being a daily-wage earning family, all of their savings soon exhausted and they had been suffering immensely.
The family had sold off whatever land they had to continue Ratan's treatment.
Later, after learning of the family's difficulties, many bodies and organisations also extended assistance.
After the government became aware of the family's suffering, CM N Biren gave instructions and a medical team was dispatched, following which her husband was admitted to JNIMS for treatment.
In a stroke of luck, her husband was able to get a kidney transplant in January this year and has now returned to living a normal life since then.
Naobi then expressed her sincerest gratitude to the chief minister for saving her husband's life.
