Kishorechandra Wangkhem awarded 6 yrs jail time

Special Judge (SC&ST-POA) Senapati on Tuesday convicted Kishorechandra Wangkhem alias Wangkhemcha Wangthoi in connection with a case registered by Senapati police station and sentenced him to 6 years in jail.
Hearing of the case registered by Senapati PS under Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities), 1989, was conducted at the court of the Special Judge (SC&STPOA) Senapati on Tuesday.
During the hearing, the IO of the case submitted a report stating that on September 11, 2020 around 5 pm, Maram Women Union president Kanga Regina filed a report at Senapati PS accusing Wangkhemcha Wangthoi of posting disrespectful and derogatory statements about the women of Maram Tribe on his Facebook Wall.
Based on the report, Senapati PS registered a case and conducted an investigation, after which the chargesheet was filed on March 16, 2021.After thoroughly examining the report submitted by the IO and submissions of both sides, the court found Kishorechandra Wangkhem guilty of the charges levelled against him and as such sentenced him to 6 years simple imprisonment under Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocity) , 1989.It further ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 5000, while commuting the time he spent in judicial custody during the trial period from the total sentence period.
Meanwhile, an application was filed on Tuesday requesting the court to suspend the sentence and permit the convict to appeal against the judgment.
Observing that the convict had no reasons to flee or disappear in the light of the court's order, it granted the convict bail for 90 days and sought a report of the appeal within 90 days, while fixing the next hearing on June 21 .
