Imphal, May 02 2023:
Skill, Labour, Employment and Entrepreneurship Minister H Dingo has categorically stated that the contributions of workers/labourers to the society is immense.
He also said that the workers/labourers have a big role to play to take the society in the right direction and bring development.
Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board (MBOCWWB) organised the Labour Day in association with the Labour Department at the premises of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA), yesterday.
At the observance, H Dingo continued that workers/labourers must be treated politely.
He further stated that MBOCWWB has become a notable Board which works for the wellbeing of the workers/labourers after the coming of BJP Government under the leadership of Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
The BJP Government has been providing benefits to workers/labourers under different schemes, Dingo said.
Continuing that the no departments, organisations or individuals must rob the wages of the workers/labourers and undermine their rights, he appealed to all concerned to inform the Labour Department if any such cases arise to take up actions against the defaulters.
Chairperson of MBOCWWB K Saratkumar, on the other hand, said that the Central Government has formulated Labour Laws and launched many schemes for the upliftment of workers/labourers.
He also said that the Government, on December 2, 2022, released wages of about 30,000 workers/labourers through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system for their children's education.
Saying that the Government is also working to provide pension to senior workers/labourers (60 years and above) and those who expired, Saratkumar maintained that the Board has already launched a survey to find out the number of workers/labourers who are eligible for the pension scheme.
Appealing to all workers/labourers to renew their Labour Card on time, Saratkumar informed that charge of card renewal is Rs 170 per year.
Claiming that there were reports of some people taking a share from the medical expenses given by the Government for beneficiaries (labourers/workers), he informed that the amount given by the Government is Rs 45,000 for a single labourer.
He then appealed to all labourers/workers to apply for the benefits themselves as the amount is released through the DBT system.
