Tarao tribe commemorates grant of ST status

Kakching, January 08 2022:
Tarao Ankaang Ruul (TAR), which is an apex body of Tarao tribe, celebrated the 19th anniversary of recognition of Tarao tribe as Scheduled Tribes (ST) at Leishokch-ing village in Chandel district on Saturday.
The celebration was attended by TAR former president M Rumshe as chief guest, Tarao Chonu Jurei (Tarao Women Society) president M Khamningkham as functional president and Tarao Students' Union former president S Jenishing as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, TAR president K Mela recalled how Tarao tribe got recognised as a Scheduled.
Tribe by the central government on January 8, 2003 .
He lauded all concerned for the ST recognition granted to Tarao tribe, which is one of the smallest tribes.
Mela further informed that the 25th general assembly of the apex body resolved to change the name Tarao Tribe Union (TTU) to Tarao Angkaang Ruul (TAR).
Three people of Tarao tribe who have received doctorate degree namely Dr K Rajen, Dr S Moses and Dr M Alita were also felicitated during the function.
