43.7 kg of opium seized

Imphal, January 08 2022:
A team of CDO-Unit, Bishnupur arrested Langpoklakpam Kiran (29) yesterday along with 63 packets of opium near Bishnupur Forest Gate along Bishnupur Khoupum Road.
Informing this, SP of Bishnupur police N Herojit said that a Tata truck was detained by the team while conducting a routine frisking and checking of vehicles along Bishnupur Khoupum road yesterday afternoon.
Upon searching the vehicle, 63 packets of opium weighing 49.7 kilograms (including the weight of plastic packets) were seized by the team.
The driver of the truck was identified as Langpoklakpam Kiran (29), from Torbung Bangla Maning Leikai and was arrested on spot after observing necessary formalities at around 2.25 pm.
The seized opium packets and arrested individual will be handed over to the police station concerned wherein necessary legal actions will be taken up under ND&PS Act, N Herojit asserted.
It may be noted that the team was under the command of MPS Mayengbam Roni, Addl SP (Ops), led by Subedar Y Shakti Shen, OC Bishnupur Commando and under the overall supervision of IPS N Herojit, SP Bishnupur.
After the briefing, the arrested person and seized opium were produced before media persons.
