One shot dead in Moreh, angry mob dismantles house of accused

Moreh, January 08 2022:
A person was reportedly killed while another was injured at Moreh Ward No 5 Muslim Nagar yesterday at around 7.30 pm.
The deceased and the injured person were riding in a car (Brezza) when the incident took place.
The deceased has been identified as Raj Gazmir (22), son of Khenuparasad Gazmir of Moreh Ward No 8 while the injured was identified as Md Mubarak (24), son of Md Tomba of Sekmaijin.
Following the attack, Mubarak is said to have been evacuated to RIMS Hospital for treatment.
According to police, the car borne duo was allegedly stopped and fired upon by one Md Ziaul Haq alias Rohit (32) from Moreh Muslim Nagar.
Raj Gazmir was killed instantly at the spot while his companion was seriously injured before the accused tried to escape with the car along with the deceased but had to abandon the car in front of KCC Church at Moreh Ward 2 Mission Veng, the police report said.
The police rushed to the spot and recovered the body as soon as they received information about the abandoned car, it said.
Later, the body was sent to JNIMS for post mortem examination, the police report continued.
In the meantime, some miscreants reportedly caused destruction of some vehicles parked along Moreh Muslim Nagar late in the night.
Reacting to the incident, irate locals stormed and vandalized the house of the accused Md Ziaul Haq alias Rohit this morning.
Speaking to media persons, president of Manipur Muslim Council Moreh Md Rajauddin expressed shock over the incident and shared the grief of the family members of the deceased and the injured.
He told media persons that the council rushed to the house of the accused as soon as they came to know about the incident but could not ascertain his whereabouts.
Eventually they approached police, he said while adding that the council will extend all possible support to police in bringing justice.
Gorkha Samaj Sewa Samiti, Hill Tribal Council-Moreh and Meetei Council Moreh, in separate releases, vehemently condemned the incident and drew the attention of the authorities concerned to nab the culprit and award befitting punishment so that such unwanted incident does not recur in the future.
Gorkha Samaj Sewa Samiti, Hill Tribal Council, Moreh and Manipur Muslim Council, Moreh also jointly submitted a charter of demands to the Deputy Commissioner of Tengnoupal district regarding the incident.
The bodies urged the Deputy Commissioner to arrest the accused, ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh, provide Government job to the next of kin of the deceased and to fulfil the demands within 48 hours.
They warned that the dead body will not be claimed and public agitation will ensue in the event the authorities concerned fail to fulfil their demands.
