Tarao tribe celebrates 19th recognition anniversary at Leishokching village

Kakching, January 08 2022:
Tarao tribe on Saturday celebrated the 19th anniversary of its recognition as a Scheduled Tribe at Leishokching village in Chandel district.
The programme was organised by Tarao Ankaang Ruul (TAR), apex body of Tarao tribe with TAR former president, M Rumshe; Tarao Chonu Jurei (Tarao Women Society) president, M Khamningkham; and Tarao Students Union former president, S Jenishing as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, TAR president, K Mela stated that the Tarao tribe was recognised as a Scheduled Tribe by the Government of India in January 8, 2003 .
He also expressed his gratitude to God for the blessings and all concerned for recognising the Tarao community as a Scheduled Tribe.
Elders of Tarao community also elaborated on the history and struggle to gain recognition as a Scheduled Tribe.
Traditional dance and songs of the Tarao tribe marked the occasion.
As part of the event, Dr K Rajen, Dr S Moses and Dr M Alita were felicitated for successfully completing their doctoral degree.
Pastor Reverend Morung Chana also attended the event as Blessing Minister.
It may be mentioned that Tarao Tribe Union (TTU) was renamed as Tarao Ankaang Ruul (TAR) following the resolution of its 25th general assembly held at Heikakpokpi.
