Imphal, June 23 2026:
A three-day international conference on "Recentering Peace in a Changing Global World: Histories, Geo-political Encounters and Identities" commenced today at Kamakhya Pemton College, Hiyangthang.
The conference is jointly organised by KP College's R&D Cell, Goreswar College, Assam, Forum for Global Studies, New Delhi, Global Centre for Peace Education, New York, Abesana Research Foundation, and Centre for Peace Education, Manipur.
Former Union Minister of State for External Affairs Dr RK Ranjan, KP College Principal Dr Wahemgbam Nimai, CFPEM Director Dr Leban Serto, and FGS Director Dr Sandeep Tripathi attended as presidium members.
Speaking to the media, Dr Ranjan said Manipur's unrest cannot be seen only as a local issue, noting links to conflict in neighbouring Myanmar, drug mafias, and wider geopolitical factors.
He stressed that conflict boundaries have shifted beyond armed struggle to economic and technological warfare, requiring deeper research to understand root causes.
Conference convenor Dr Laishram Jitendrajit said 15 delegates from outside the State are participating.
He added that understanding history and identity is key to resolving unrest, and academic research is vital alongside calls for peace.
