MLA calls for testing imported fish

Imphal, January 08 2022:
Department of Veterinary and Animal Husband ry on Saturday inaugurated Mayang Imphal Veterinary Hospital, Santipur Veterinary Dispensary, Phoubakchao Veterinary Dispensary and Laphupat Tera Dispensary cum ICDP Sub Centre during a meeting held at Phoubakchao public ground.
Speaking as chief guest of the event, Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker and Mayang Imphal AC Kongkham Robindro stressed the need to examine the fishes being imported into the state, and ascertain whether they are safe for human consumption or not.
Observing the plight of local fish farmers owing to low prices of the imported fishes, the speaker highlighted the location of Mayang Imphal and its close vicinity to Loktak Lake, with around 50 km of the constituency being located beside the Lake.
As such, the area located close to the Lake could be utilised for agricultural purposes including animal husbandry, so as to prevent wastage of resources, he suggested.
In his speech, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry director Dr Ch Nandakishore stated that the department has been working to improve the economic conditions of the rural area by encouraging the people to engage in poultry farming, animal husbandry and other activities.
The inaugural function was also attended by Laphupat Tera Komlakhong GP pradhan N Basanta and Phoubakchao Ward no 4 member S Lemthoibi.
