Opium worth Rs 1 cr seized

Bishnupur, January 08 2022:
A team of Bishnu-pur district police on Friday seized 49.7 kg of opium worth Rs 1 crore from a truck (AS01 FC0271) driven by one Langpoklakpam Kiran (29), son of late L Lachi of Torbung Bangla Maning Leikai during a frisking and checking operation at Bishnupur Forest Gate.
Briefing the media in connection with the seizure on Saturday, Bishnupur SP N Herojit Singh stated that based on a specific information, a team comprising additional SP (Ops) Roni Mayengbam, Bishnupur Commando Unit OC Y Shaktishen, ASI Gyanen Kshyayriya, ASI Victor Haobijam, havildar Th Basanta and havildar RK Manjit Singh carried out frisking and checking operation at Bishnupur Forest Gate.
At about 2:50 pm, a truck driven by the accused which was coming from Churachandpur and destined for Jiribam was stopped for checking.
On searching the truck, four packets of opium were found from the tool box, 59 packets were found hidden in the spare tyre.
Altogether, 63 packets of opium weighing 49.7 kg in total worth Rs 1 crore were recovered by the police team, he informed.
The SP Bishnupur continued that the accused and seized items have been handed over to Bishnupur police station for further investigation.
He mentioned that a stringent drive against drug and alcohol as well as and social elements has been taken up in the district to ensure that the upcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election can be held in a free and fair manner.
The SP urged the public to extend support to the drive being taken up by the police.
