Police exhume Vanramlal's mortal remains

Churachandpur district police on Thursday exhumed the mortal remains of Vanramlal (32) s/o Thanglawr of Muollun Rengkai, who was beaten up by four unidentified people on December 20, 2021 at around 7 am and later succumbed to injuries at the District Hospital.
The exhumation was undertaken with due permission from the Executive Magistrate for examination by forensic experts, a source conveyed.
The source further stated that the police had arrested one suspect, identified as Alan Hmar, in connection with FIR No 66(5)2022 CCP-PS u/s 302/34 of IPC.
Alan Hmar and two other cadres of the proscribed Hmar People s Convention-Democratic (HPC-D), one of the SoO signatories, were earlier put in jail on May 4 this year.
However, even as Vanramlal was beaten to death under his (Alan) leadership on December 20 last, Alan threatened the victim's family with dire consequences if they reported the matter to police.
Nonetheless, the victim's family filed a report to the police, based on which Alan Hmar and his cohorts were arrested.
On Thursday, Vanramlal's mortal remains were dug out by the district police for post mortem with proper video coverage.
The CJM had earlier remanded Alan Hmar in police custody till May 18, It may be mentioned here that Alan Hmar and five other cadres were arrested on April 21 evening from Rengkai bridge by a combined team of District Police and 31 Assam Rifles.
In addition to seizing the vehicle in which the cadres were travelling in, the security team also confiscated a USA-made SIG SAU-ERP3 20SP, one 9mm pistol, one magazine with 12 live bullets, two magazines with 7 live bullets each from Alan's possession.
A case was filed at Churachandpur PS and Alan formally arrested under various Act.
