Imphal, October 01 2021:
While announcing that CPI Manipur State Council fully supports the state wide bandh called by Athuart Abonmai JAC, the council has demanded both the central and state governments to declare whether ceasefire with NSCN (IM) is extended in Manipur or not.
Speaking to media persons at Irawat Bhawan here on Friday, Council spokesperson RK Amusana strongly condemned the abduction and subsequent assassination of Athuan Abonmai.
Stating that Abonmai was a vigorous advocate of the integrity of Manipur, he regretted that the incident happened as Abonmai went to attend a function of the Chief Minister at Tamenglong district headquarters.
Despite the claims that there are no camps of NSCN-IM in Manipur, many members of the armed group have been kidnapping, torturing and even brutally murdering people who are vocal against its activities, he alleged, while demanding the central and state governments to explain to the people why they are remaining as muted spectators to such violent acts of an armed group.
Enquiring why state government could not remove the NSCN-IM camps if the ceasefire between the Naga rebel group and the central government is not applicable in the state, Amusana further asked why the state failed to take up actions against the armed cadres of the outfit even if they are involved in murdering people.
In order to make the state a peaceful one, NSCN-IM should be pushed back, he added.
Informing that the murder of Athuan Abonmai will be discussed in the national council and executive meeting of the party scheduled from Saturday in Delhi, Amusana reiterated that the CPI will support the movement of JAC formed in connection with the murder of Athuan Abonmai and also the state-wide bandh.
