Imphal, March 01 2022:
Naga People's Front (NPF), Chandel president and Sungnem Sankhil Sumkhor (SSS) vice president Sk Shettoi and NPF Chandel former president and advisor Sk Kronsing have categorieally denounced the decision taken by SSS on February 27 to 'ostracise' then from the clan for speaking during a NPF political meeting held at Chakpikarong on February 26.In a joint release, Sk Shettoi and Sk Kronsing stated that SSS is a non-profit, non-political welfare society formed in March 1953.In its 69 years of existence, the society has consistently resisted the offer of politicising itself during elections and never interfered in the exercise of adult franchise by its members.
This is the first time that the society has resorted to ostracism of its members for supporting a political party of his/her choice, they said and condemned the current office bearers and the 24 others who attended the meeting and took the resolution.
The NPF leaders also condemned the attempt to defame them through wilful misrepresentation of the facts of their speeches during the public meeting of the NPF in Chakpikarong.
The statement issued by the society in the media on March 1, in which it was claimed that they were "ostracised" from the clan for saying at the NPF event in Chakpikarong that Sungnem Sankhil electors will vote for the NPF, is a blatant lie.
In their speeches at the said event, they never mentioned the name of SSS.
There is video evidence that supports their claim.
Therefore, they demand the SSS president and his colleagues of the clan society to correct this lie immediately, or else they will be compelled to pursue legal measures for libel, they asserted.
The NPF leaders continued that as executives of NPF for Chandel AC, they do not need permission from a non-political welfare body like SSS to perform their duties in the party recognised by the Election Commission of India.
Nor do they need their approval, or any organisation for that matter, in exercising their constitutional right as guaranteed under Article 19 (a) and (g) read together with Article 326 of the Indian constitution, they further emphasised.
