Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, February 18 2022: Candidates contesting the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election from Sekmai assembly constituency shared their views and thoughts to The People's Chronicle's posers on reason for contesting election, first work to be executed after getting elected and their vision for the state and constituency.

In his reply to questionnaire, sitting MLA Heikham Dingo of BJP cited zeal to serve the people as the primary reason for contesting the election, and assured to complete road projects and potable drinking water schemes which could not be completed in time due to outbreak of the pandemic.

Pledging to improve education, health and youth sectors to make Sekmai a model constituency in the state, Dingo said his objective for the state will be enhancing the economy.

According to Indian National Congress candidate Ningthoujam Biren, he decided to contest the election to deliver welfare to people and vowed to chalk up special policy for unemployed youth with emphasis on skills development programmes.

Biren also said he will work to promote agriculture and allied activities to make Manipur self-sufficient in food production.

Responding to the queries, JDU's Khwairakpam Devendro said he decided to contest election to plug the developmental lacunae in the constituency.

Improvement of drinking water facility and enhancing economy of people of Sekmai AC,and contributing his mite in resolving major issues of the state like repeal of AFSPA and border dispute would be his priorities for the constituency and state respectively, he said.

Ningthoujam Popilal of NCP, said shouldering responsibility in bringing welfare for the people as their representative made him join electoral politics.

Pledging to earmark 20 percent of his Local Area Development fund for the education sector, he also vowed to improve agriculture sector and improve infrastructure in health sector.

On his vision for the state, Popilal remarked that if grievances of the people of Sekmai AC could be addressed then such a success will naturally contribute to the overall progress of Manipur.

Khaidem Ranjit of Shiv Sena, in his replysaid Sekmai AC is filled with shortcomings and decided to contest election to lessen suffering of SC and general category people of the constituency.

If elected, Ranjit said, he will resolve district boundary issues particularly in Sekmai AC and give special emphasis on education and health sectors apart from improving economy.

On his visionfor the state, he pledged to work for having an effective ILP system to check influx and generate job for the unemployed youth.

According to independent candidate Maharabam Anita Devi, decision to contest the election is based on developing Sekmai AC in all sectors.

She said that,if elected, improving the economy will be her priority along with focusing on better condition of road and communication, and agriculture.

On her vision for the state, Anita vowed to work for increasing and exporting food grains.

Another Independent candidate Khwairakpam Robin Singh, said he decided to contest election to save indigenous people of the state and confided that special policy will be laid out to provide job to youth, widow and differently abled persons.

On the third question, Robin said indigenous people of Manipur are about to go extinct and hence special voices for indigenous people need to be raised at proper platform.

He also promised to bring solution to this issue completely.

NPP candidate Ayangbam Oken said that he is contesting the election to serve the public as a youth and to challenge the trend of ignoring the poor section of the society.

In his constituency, he would be focusing on addressing key issues so as to bring development if he is elected.

He also confided of having a vision to make Manipur a self-reliant state in different sectors, especially in food, and improve water supply with a practical approach.
