Dr Rangitabali wins PM Award

University and Higher Education director, Dr Rangitabali Waikhom has been selected for the Prime Minister's Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2020 under 'Innovation (general) District' category.
The award is instituted by the Government of India to recognise commendable service in public administration carried out by civil servants.
Dr Rangitabali was selected for the award for the project 'Bleed with Pride' which was taken up in Imphal East district while she was serving as the deputy commissioner of the district.
The award, which carries Rs 10 lakh in cash, scroll and a trophy, will be presented on the occasion of Civil Services Day, which falls on April 25 .
Speaking to The People's Chronicle, Dr Rangitabali recounted that she implemented the project in Imphal East district in 2019-20 with the objective to empower women and encourage adolescent girls in times of their monthly menstruation period.
During the project, cam paigns were organised to educate adolescent girls that this monthly period is a natural process and they should be proud of this as this is a symbol of womanhood.
They were also encouraged to stay neat and clean, especially during their monthly menstruation period, she recalled.
The project was able to create a major positive impact on the lives of women, especially adolescent girls.
Though the project faced several inconveniences in the initial period, relentless efforts with determination made it a success.
The project was implemented in the form of Jan Andolan by involving the community, Dr Rangitabali explained, while adding that she thinks that it was an innovative project.
