State NEET-2022 topper keen to serve people

Despite coming from a humble background, hard work and determination of a student, who even had to intentionally skip school assembly for wearing improper uniform and never satisfied in study owing to poverty, paid off by topping the NEET-2022 for the state.
Aheibam Jeetkumar topped the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET), formerly All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT), conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the state of Manipur.
He scored an aggregate of 663 marks out of the total 720 for three subjects namely physics, chemistry and biology.
A total of 3981 students from MAnipur appeared for the NEET-2022 conducted by NTA on July 17 and Jeetkumar topped for the state when the result came out on September 7.Jeetkumar hails from Heirangoithong West Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Leikai in Imphal West district and he is eldest son of Aheibam Nabakishore and Jamuna Devi.
He studied at US Academy, Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai from nursery till class X and passed HSLC examination conducted by Board of Secondary Education Manipur from the same school with letter marks in four subjects and scored 82 percent.
In an exclusive interview, Jeetkumar told The People's Chronicle that his father is a carpenter by profession and borne the entire expenditure of his and his younger brother's education with the meagre income.
Jeetkumar said that he never got satisfaction in study due to poverty and stood in front of other students during school assembly on numerous occasions due to non-clearance of school fee and could not afford to buy new uniform and shoes.
"This forced me to skip school assembly on numerous occasions particularly while studying in class X, he recounted, adding that he could not afford to take chemistry tuition though wanted to do so before giving class X exam.
Jeetkumar said that teachers at US Academy treated him well and mathematics teacher Biswashanti of the school even offered tuition free of cost for the subject while in class X- He had no tuition other than this subject.
While studying in class XI and XII at COMET School too, teachers of the school treated him very well and physics teacher H Shashi-kanta in particular used to bring reference books at his house and taught him without taking any money.
"Except for physics, I had no tuition for other subjects while preparing for class XII exam", he added.
According to Jeetkumar, he wanted to do engineering initially but changed his mind alter witnessing role and responsibility of doctors during COVID-19 pandemic and accordingly decided to pursue career in medical line to serve people with dedication.
"My first NEET attempt in 2021 was unsuccessful much due to in-experience and other reasons but put more efforts in the second attempt by staying at my maternal uncle's residence as there was no proper space to readbooks at my home", he revealed, adding that he did regular exercise in the second attempt as keeping healthy is very necessary for giving competitive exam.
Jeetkumar further said that he wants to study MBBS at RIMS and serve people after becoming a qualified person in medical profession.
Jeetkumar credited his success in NEET-2022 to his parents, teachers at US Academy and COMET School, particular ly teacher Shashikanta and other well-wishers.
