Jiribam police recover stolen railway materials, two arrested

Jiribam, January 10 2018:
Jiribam District Police have recovered stolen railway materials consisting of E- clips, Liners which were uprooted from a railway track between Vangaichungpao railway station and Jiribam Railway station.
In connection with the incident, two individuals have been arrested by Jiribam police and have been identified as Lentinmang Singson and Kapjahul Tryte Hmar, both from Phaitol Pt-I village.
The Superintendent of Police, Jiribam while speaking at a press briefing, said that the duo uprooted ERC clips and Liners off the railway track starting from December 20, last year, and continued their activities till January 4 .
They also sold the materials to scrap dealers, he added.

The incident came to the light when a Junior Engineer of Railway reported the incident to Jiribam police.
Jiribam police took stock of the tracks and swung into action to find the culprits, the SP further stated.
He said that during preliminary enquiry, the duo revealed that they uprooted 1500 ER clips and 2200 liners although police have been able to recover only 1000 ERC and 200 liners till date.
He appealed to all to refrain from such illegal activities in the future as it might led to derailment of trains leading to major accidents.
The State Government is putting immense effort to bring railway connectivity to Imphal, however, there have been news of frequent abduction of railway workers and officials which is a major disturbance in the progress of railway work, the SP said.
The SP warned all those concerned who were involved in such activities to refrain from abductions of any kinds.
On the other hand, many village chiefs and village leaders of Jiribam held a meeting at the office chamber of the SP Jiribam at around 2.30 pm today to discuss the frequent alleged abduction and kidnapping of railway workers and officers in their areas.
They jointly appealed to all individual or group concerned to give up such illegal activities, on humanitarian ground.
