National Handloom Expo, 2017 draws to a close MOA to explore incentives for handloom weavers

The 15-day long National Handloom Expo, 2017 organised by Manipur Handlooms & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd, Paona Bazar at Manipur Trade & Exhibition Centre, Lamboikhongnangkhong, Imphal West came to an end today.
Altogether 80 handloom stalls, including one from Weaver Service Centre, Government of India participated in the handloom expo.
The closing function was graced by K Lamlee Kamei, Director, Handlooms & Textiles, Government of Manipur; C Rajasekaran, Officer-in-charge, Weavers Services Centre, Imphal and E Jeeten Singh, General Manager (A), MHHDC Ltd as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Speaking at the function, Lamlee Kamei said that the reports and feedbacks collected from designers and Cluster Development Executives (CDEs) will be evaluated and submitted to the authorities concerned so that the benefits and importance of the exhibition can be discussed at length with them.
He informed that a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) will be inked soon with yarn depo operators and discussions will be held with them to explore incentives and subsidies that can be given to handloom weavers.
He further said that meetings will be conducted with the CDEs, weavers and all concerned to generate awareness on the functioning of yarn depo operators and how to link with them.
Maintaining that every beneficiary can lodge their complains with the authorities concerned regarding matters related to the schemes taken up under the State Government, Lamlee appealed to the concerned individuals to acquire full knowledge on the schemes and clear any misunderstandings before making complains.
Jeeten conveyed that a proposal will be submitted to Government of India soon for organising an annual exhibition on textiles and handicrafts.
He asserted that organising such exhibitions would provide a huge platform for marketing the textiles and handicrafts products of the State.
He said that MHHDC looks after the provisions for organising such exhibitions in neighbouring countries like Bangladesh and Myanmar.
