A joint coordination committee for rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease has been formed under the Directorate of Health Services, Government of Manipur and the State Health Society, according to an official report.
A statement from the Directorate of Health Services mentioned that the committee comprises members of (i) NPCDCS (National Program for Prevention & Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease & Stroke) (ii) RBSK (Rasthriya Bal Swasthya Kayakram) (iii) State Health Officials (iv) Regional Director Ministry of H & FW Regional office Govt.of India and (v) president Manipur Heart Foundation under the Chairmanship of Director Health Service Manipur.
In a function held this morning at Classic Hotel Imphal, a programme of trainers of all the districts of Manipur for doctors and specialists was also held as a part of the coordination work.
The coordination committee will identify the districts for effective implementation of the programme for which the ultimate goals are to reduce: (i) the number of streptococcal infection (sore throat), (ii) the number of new/current case of rheumatic fever, and (iii) the number of disabilities/death due to rheumatic heart diseases.
According to the statement, some of the major steps taken up are: (i) awareness generation/health education, (ii) establish screening of referral mechanism, and (iii) strengthen diagnosis and treatment modalities for pharyngitis & RF/RHD
The inaugural function of the joint coordination committee was presided by Dr Kh Sashikumar Mangang, Addl.
Director (PH), DHS while Dr K Rajo, Director Health Services and Mission Director State Health Society and L Ashananda, Regional Director, ROHFW, graced the function as the chief guest, guest of honour and president of the function respectively.
