MLA Haokholet calls for drug-free Saitu AC

Expressing concern over increasing instances of drug related deaths among the youth of Saitu assembly constituency, MLA Haokholet Kipgen has called upon the people of the constituency to give up cultivation of poppy, marijuana and to make Saitu a drug-free zone.
He made the appeal during an assessment visit of the natural eco-system of Saitu AC after formal inauguration of Bungte Chiru Tribal Development Block.
The MLA sought support of the people in the 'war on drugs' mission initiated by chief minister N Biren and to replace plantation of poppy in the constituency with cash crops.
He also assured to bring up the demand for renovation of the road leading to Bungte Chiru block to the government authorities and stressed that the people shall have to shoulder the responsibility to bring development in their respective villages.
In his address, Block in-charge relief and disaster management joint secretary A Shivdas urged the people of the 28 villages under the block to promote their unique agricultural or horticultural produces as well as handloom products.
He confided that the government is planning to visit every household in the block and extend them support in availing benefits of different government schemes.
Meanwhile, Bungte Chiru village chairman Nijankung Chiru conveyed gratitude to the government for commissioning of the office and further appealed to designate an SDO for the block in order to address the issues besieging the local populace.
