Non-payment of wages irks job card holders of Changamdabi GP

The job card holders in Changamdabi Gram Panchayat have complained against the non-payment of their wages for the work under MGNREGS which was completed in October last year.
In a press meet held at the Panchayat Bhavan at Porompat in Imphal East district, Jahuruddin Secretary of Job Card Holders Committee, Changamdabi, Yairipok said there are 7 wards in Yairipok Changamdabi Gram Panchayat.
As many as 308 job card holders of ward numbers 3, 4, 5, 7 and 6 under the said Gram Panchayat executed the road singling work along Iboton Road (IVR) at Changamdabi Mayai Leikai as a share of Line department under MGNREGA, he stated and added that the works were executed from 25 to 30 October 2013 .
However, wages amounting to Rs.2,82,744/- for the said works have not been paid to the job card holders till date, he added.
Moreover, when the job card holders went to the post office for withdrawing their wages amounting to Rs.2,14,812/- in connection with the works on the IVR road of Jamia Masjid, it was found out that the amount has already been encashed by some persons, Jahuruddin said, while informing that in connection with this, a complaint has been lodged to the Imphal East Deputy Commissioner.
