Imphal, April 15 2022:
As in different parts of the country, Manipur Fire Services commenced observance of Fire Service Week from April 14 on the theme 'Learn fire safety, increase productivity' with the inaugural function held at its headquarters near Imphal pologround.
The inaugural function was marked by paying of floral tributes and observing silence for two minutes in memory of the departed fire fighters by Manipur Fire Service director Themthing Ngasangva, joint director L Nabachandra and staffers.
Awareness programme on fire safety will be organised in hospitals during the week long observance.
Meanwhile, people of Moreh are expressing grave concern over the alleged negligence of the government towards Fire sub station, Moreh.
The building of Moreh fire sub station is in pitiable state and the staffers are at risk of facing dire situation in case of occurrence of earthquake as there are large cracks on the building walls.
Moreover, there are holes even larger than windows on the walls of the building.
The garage of the fire station too is in deplorable condition.
There are no proper quarters for staffers of the department.
They are made to reside in a tin-roofed, wood wall structure.
Community leaders of Moreh have been urging MLAs, minister and officials of the department for repairing the building, which was inaugurated by former minister Bijoy Koijam on April 17, 2002.The Fire service station has been facing inconveniences when fire accident occurred in Indo - Myanmar border town Moreh as the residential area is congested.
Moreover, fire service took hours to fetch water from Turel Menal (Lokchao) and Khujairok River if the fire tenders run of water while fighting fire incidents.
