Number of women playwrights in Manipur needs to be increased in view of the increasing demand and scope of development of the theatrical art form.
This was stated by Dr S Thaninleima, Director of 'Khenjonglang' during the ongoing 45-day Residential Playwriting Workshop cum Production on playwright being organized under the sponsorship of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.
In a chit-chat with Hueiyen Lanpao, Dr Thaninleima said that women of the State are known for their valuable involvement in every aspect and noted that if large number of women started entering the world of playwright then the theatre art of the State could make a paradigm shift.
She informed that three women and one man playwrights have been selected during the ongoing workshop for taking part in production of play and added that the ongoing workshop is a welcoming event for the State as renowned figures in the field of Indian theatre like Gitis, Anuradha Kapoor and Tusar Pandey are imparting training to the students apart from the presence of theatre critics.
It is worth following the footsteps of late great playwrights of the State who had left behind fine ideas and thoughts.
Undoubtedly, learning from their experience will definitely help young budding playwrights, she said.
Maintaining that theatrical art and its artistes are much respected by society today, and they have been an indispensable part of people's life in the State since times immemorial, Dr Thaninleima stated that involvement of and sharing thoughts with playwrights could prove to be a good practice.
