Imphal, May 20 2014 :
A public meeting which was participated by nearly 135 village heads made a firm stand yesterday to oppose establishment of a designated camp for Kuki National Liberation Front/Kuki People's Army (KNLF/KPA) at Semol village under Khengjoy subdivision in Chandel district.
The meet held at Semol village also sent out a clear message to the Government that any designated camp for any underground group belonging to either Kuki or Naga or Meitei would not be allowed in Khengjoy area.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Semol village chief Tigoulen Haokip told reporters that the Government would not be allowed to set up any designated camp for any underground group in Khengjoy area.
He threatened that villagers of the area would rise up together against the Government in the face of ignoring the public stand.
The village head added that a designated camp for United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) has already been set up at Semol.
"Cadres of KNLF/KPA are also our own brethren.
But clashes between KNLF/KPA and UKLF are imminent in the area if another camp comes up here," Tigoulen cautioned.
KNLF is a constituent of UPF/KNO, an umbrella organization of different Kuki armed groups and therefore the Government should keep all cadres of KNLF near the designated camp of the latter, he suggested.
Both KNLF/KPA and UKLF are signatories to suspension of operation (SoO) involving the State and Central Governments.
The Semol chief further clarified that he did not give his consent to the Government to establish the designated camp for KNLF/KPA at the village.
