Raising serious concern over increasing pollution in Nambul River and Waishel Maril canal which directly flow into Loktak Lake, Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB) would formulate a project for treating the polluted water of Nambul and Waishel Maril.
Talking to media persons at his Secretariat office chamber here today, Chairman of MPCB Dr Ng Bijoy said that a California-based scientist Dr Sashikumar Mazumdar has begun to study the pollution levels of Nambul and Waishel Maril.
The MPCB would soon formulate a project for setting up of a waste water treatment and management plant in the State in consultation with the visiting scientist.
Dr Mazumdar began his study from yesterday and he would continue to study these water bodies to bring out a solution to prevent the polluted water from Nambul and Waishel Maril falling into Loktak Lake, Dr Bijoy said.
MPCB Chairman also pointed out that the Naga River which connects with Nambul River has become dangerously polluted.
The visiting scientist would chalk out ways to mitigate the pollution after making a thorough study of the river.
Dr Mazumdar said that he would make a thorough study of the Naga River to determine the level and toxicity of its polluted water.
The methods and ways to treat this polluted water would be known after the completion of the study.
