Imphal, June 14 2022:
The Department of Law, Manipur University (MU) organised a lecture on 'Constitutional vision of justice' at the lecture hall of the department on Tuesday.
MU vice-chancellor professor N Lokendra, department of law head Dr Yumnam Premananda and retired high court judge justice Kh Nobin attended the inaugural session of the lecture as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, professor Lokendra recalled how former vice-chancellor Jarnail Singh opened the law department during his stint at the university by engaging guest faculties and adopting the same syllabus of LMS Law College.
The department was further improved with advice and suggestions from late justice Ashok Potsangbam.
Consequently, the Centre has now sanctioned fund for construction of a separate building for the department, he said, while informing that construction work will be completed within a couple of years.
According to Dr Yumnam Premananda, in-spite of being a new department, they are planning to make it one of the major departments of the university and organise monthly lecture series and awareness on law.
The first of the lecture series on the topic 'International economy and trade law' was organised virtually due to Covid-19 pandemic with MU economic department's Dr Chinglen Maisnam and Dr Bobo as resource persons.
This is the second edition of the lecture series, he said and urged the scholars and students of the department to absorb the ideas shared by retired justice Kh Nobin to use them as reference in examination.
Dr Premananda also encouraged them to be more interactive to increase their knowledge instead of just sitting and listening to the lecture.
Meanwhile, Justice Kh Nobin Singh, who is also the director of Manipur Judicial Academy, spoke on the topic and interacted with the faculty members and students during the technical session.
