IBSD organises industry-connect programme

Imphal, June 14 2022:
Institute of Biore sources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Department of Biotechnology under the Ministry of Science and Technology organised Industry-Connect (I-Connect) programme under the theme "Exploring Traditional Medicines-Drugs from Nature & drugs from our Ancestors" on Tuesday under the leadership of IBSD Imphal director Prof Pulok K Mukherjee.
The programme was held as a part of celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by ministry of Science & Technology and ministry of Earth Sciences in its 75 i-Connect (industry Connect) events from May 12 to August 12, 2022 .
It was also observed with an aim to forge partnership(s) with industries.
During the programme, Prof Pulok highlighted various initiatives of IBSD for exploring traditional medicines, healer's knowledge & bioresources for the development of bioeconomy of the region.
The programme was addressed by CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu former director Dr Ram Vishwakarma who highlighted various initiatives for scientific validation of traditional medicines of North East Region (NER).
BIRAC New Delhi head Dr Manish Diwan, on the other hand, appreciated the efforts of the IBSD directpr for promoting traditional medicines in the development of bioeconomy of the region.
National Medicinal Plants Board, New Delhi chief executive officer Dr Tanuja Nesari highlighted various programmes of NMPB especially for NER to promote medicinal plants of the region.
During the event, CRIA care Pvt Ltd, Mumbai director Dr Narendra Bhatt highlighted various opportunities with available bioresources for developing industrial linkages while Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi professor Prof Dr Sayeed Ahmed deliberated on various bioresources of the region for development of products/processes/technologies.
During the event, eminent scientists/industrialists including Dr Tanuja Nesari, Prof Rabinayan Acharya, Dr Manoj Kumar Modi, Dr Vaishali Punjabi, Dr Robindra Teron, Dr Arun Gupta and Dr S Yoirentomba shared their knowledge for exploring traditional medicines and bioresources of NER for development of products/ processes technologies.
The event was also attended by several entrepreneurs specially women entrepreneurs of Manipur including Bijiyashanti Tongbram, Tuingam Louzhi, Elizabeth Meitram/ Ngangom Monalisa Chanu, Zeinorin Stephan and interacted with experts from industries/institutions on exploring natural resources for the development of bioeconomy.
Mention may be made here that IBSD will be organising International Bioresource Conclave & Ethnopharmacology Congress for the first time in Northeastern Region in Imphal in February 2023, where scientists from more than 40 countries will be joining to share their ideas for the promotion of traditional medicines and bioresources at large.
